Remarks:

On 20 and 21 February 2025, the ETUI and KU Leuven will host the fifth annual conference on the Future of Work. This year’s overarching theme is ‘Reclaiming the value of work in the digital economy’.

This event seeks to explore the profound impact of digital technology, generative AI, and algorithmic management on the world of work, while adopting a broader normative perspective and a focus on job quality. As platform work becomes a structural component of the EU labour market, and AI and algorithmic management increasingly permeate the conventional economy, it is essential to critically assess the sustainability and adequacy of existing normative and doctrinal models.

Are current frameworks for theorizing good and precarious work and for measuring labour market fairness, job quality, industrial relations practices, and regulatory paradigms sufficient to capture the digitally driven transformation of work? This event proposes a rigorous examination of this broad question, aiming to redefine the future of work in an era of rapid technological change.
