LLRN SUMMER SEMINAR SERIES
SEMINAR 2

Migrant domestic workers – 15 June 2022 (CEST/Rome/Stockholm 11am – 12.30pm)
This seminar will centre on discussion of Vera Pavlou’s new book, Migrant Domestic Workers in Europe: Law and the Construction of Vulnerability available at: https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/migrant-domestic-workers-in-europe-9781509....

The aim of this seminar will be to explore the often neglected, but overwhelmingly common, everyday vulnerability of those who support the smooth functioning of contemporary societies: paid migrant domestic workers. We will be examining, with perspectives from and beyond Europe, the multiple disadvantages experienced by these workers, recognising but going beyond more frequent analysis based on 'modern' slavery or trafficking, considering the much more widespread day-to-day vulnerabilities created at the intersection of different legal regimes, examining issues such as low wages, unregulated working time, dismissals and the impact of migration status on enforcing rights at work.

Chaired by Petra Herzfeld Olsson and introduced by Vera Pavlou, other speakers will include: Maria Luz Rodriguez, Guy Mundlak, Kamalesh Newaj, Hila Shamir and Stefan van Eck
