We are pleased to share with you the call for papers for the international conference on "Living Wage as a Human Right":
State obligations and the responsibility of international business". The conference will take place on 10 October 2025 in Rome, at the Mercatorum University.
We seek contributions from scholars, practitioners, and NGOs about the following matters:
1. Asian and other regional approaches to minimum wages and the correlation between minimum wage, living wage, and decent wage;
2. the human rights aspects of the right to a decent wage and the human rights obligations of the states to ensure that the minimum wage covers the basic needs,
3. the obligation of business to respect the human rights of the workers for a decent wage;
4. might the lack of norms on living wages in the country be considered as a human rights risk in terms of the EU due diligence norms;
5. the possible role of the sustainability reporting directive and the EU reporting standards in ensuring living wage provisions in supply chains in Asian countries or other regions;
6. the challenges multinational corporations face in ensuring living wages in supply chain;
7. the role of trade unions and NGOs in pushing for the establishment of the decent living wage in the Asian countries or other regions;
8. might the lack of norms on living wages in the country be considered as a human rights risk in terms of the EU due diligence norms.
9. Methodology for setting and updating minimum wages to ensure their adequacy.
The chosen papers will be presented at the conference in Rome, the best ones will be published in a book indexed in the Web of Science or Scopus. The organizers will cover one night of accommodation and a gala dinner in Rome.
