The Challenges of Labour through the Voice of Labour and Social Activists
8 June 2020 – h 17.00-19.00 CET

The pandemic exposed, exacerbated, and furthered labour fragmentation. New found divisions entered the established narrative (essential v non-essential workers), health and safety concerns were brought to the fore, while a multitude of challenges faced workers, as labour market forces seized the chance to consolidate managerial power and further promote ‘liberalisation’ and flexibility. These, however, were not met without reaction. Workers have already quickly sought new ways of organising and raising their collective voice, as a first push-back to the first signs of the major challenges ahead. This session invites trade union organisers and labour and social activists to lead the discussion, sharing their experiences and insights and, perhaps, indicating the way forward.
