Professor Rosado Marzán is an internationally recognized socio-legal scholar and award-winning author. At Iowa law he teaches contracts and various courses in labor and employment law.
Doctrinally, Prof. Rosado Marzán's scholarship has focused on U.S., comparative, and international labor and employment law. Empirically, he has focused on studying institutions and organizations. These include labor inspectorates, labor courts, works councils, labor unions, worker centers, and wage boards. His doctrinal book, Principled Labor Law: U.S. Labor Law from a Latin American Method (Oxford 2019) (with Sergio Gamonal C.) won the Simón Bolivar Prize for Best Juridical Work. He is also coauthor in the upcoming 4th edition of the casebook Labor Law in the Contemporary Workplace: Cases and Materials (West). His current socio-legal book project on the moral economy of alt labor explains how U.S. worker centers, groups with little money, small memberships, and thin staff, can lead robust moral projects for workers’ rights.
Prof. Rosado Marzán's articles and essays have appeared in Law & Social Inquiry, University of Chicago Law Review, Minnesota Law Review, UC Irvine Law Review, University of Chicago Legal Forum, Chicago-Kent Law Review, American University Law Review, Berkeley Journal of Employment and Labor Law, among other law reviews and journals in the United States, Europe, and Latin America.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Professor Rosado Marzán is a proud member of the Bar Association of Puerto Rico (Colegio de Abogados y Abogadas de Puerto Rico). He is on the Executive Committee of the Labor Law Group, a leading group of labor law scholars, and on the Steering Committee of the Labor Law Research Network, an international group of labor law academics. He is also a very active member of the Law and Society Association. Depending on time and money, he also attends meetings of the American Sociological Association, the International Sociological Association, the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics, the American Bar Association, and the Association of American Law Schools.
Prior to joining Iowa Law, Professor Rosado Marzán taught at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he also was Co-director of the Institute for Law of the Workplace. He has been a visiting faculty member or scholar at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Stockholm University, the American Bar Foundation, and the Oñati Institute for the Sociology of Law. Before becoming a professor, he worked in New York City law firms representing labor unions and employees.
Professor Rosado Marzán currently lives in Iowa City with his wife, two sons, two dogs, and cat.
